This property set in 150 acres on the outskirts of Seal village, was originally a diary farm. The buildings, in the original picture, are in fact milking sheds!
Our design brief was to provide a roof to enclose the inner courtyard making this into a large family room. This central area would provide a core link between the children’s bedrooms, the kitchen, another separate lounge and the two storey barn where the master bedroom would be situated. The roof spanned twenty-five feet and was nearly seventy feet in length. It was designed with two large structural box gutters which would take the rainwater from both the conservatory and the main house roof. An internal portal frame ensured that its weight was evenly distributed.
The entire area was heated using under floor heating situated beneath the York flagstones. |
